Parashat V’etchanan means “And I pleaded.” And oh honey, Moses is pleading.
Moses: (on a mountaintop, arms dramatically extended)
God. Please. One more time. Just let me go into the Promised Land. I’ve led. I’ve cried. I haven’t even updated my travel blog.
Divine Voice: (gently but firmly)
Moshe. We’ve been over this. No.
Moses:
Okay… but what if I just peek from the border? One sandal over the line?
Divine Voice:
You get a look. From afar. With a good view. That’s all.
Narrator:
Moses is us: wanting closure. Wanting a do-over. But Torah says: Sometimes you don’t get to enter the place you dreamed of. But you still get to tell the story.
