I am going to drop a Sedra Scene a week in a serial blog starting next Thursday with B'reishit. Each Sedra Scene skit is a creative midrash, a playful and profound retelling that asks: what happens when we bring ourselves to Torah? What happens when we imagine Adam, Eve, and Lilith figuring out consent and identity in the Garden? When we see Joseph’s coat not just as a sign of favoritism, but as a symbol of fabulous, unapologetic self-expression? What if Yaakov’s wrestling match becomes an exploration of queer identity and becoming?
These scenes must be performed, read aloud, or enjoyed with a knowing smile. They are written with B’Mitzvah students and religious school learners in mind, but they’re just as meaningful for adults seeking a fresh, irreverent, and deeply heartfelt way into Torah. I hope that you enjoy them!
